Today at Daytona international speedway 20 year old Trevor Bayne from Knoxville, TN wins the Daytona 500 in just his 1st try, it was Trevor’s 2nd NASCAR sprint cup series start driving for the famous #21 Wood Brothers Ford Fusion. His very first, and only cup start in 2010 came at the Texas motor speedway in the fall race last year, he finished 17th and on the lead lap that day. Trevor Bayne elected to receive his points over in the NASCAR nationwide series instead of the sprint cup series since Trevor is running full time in the NASCAR nationwide series, and part time in the NASCAR sprint cup series in 2011. In the press conference after the race today at Daytona Trevor in a joking mood said ’’I should ask Mike Hilton NASCAR’s president if we can change the series where we get our points in.’’ Today at Daytona their was a lot of records broken for the number of lead changes, and cautions, but also the record was broken for the youngest Daytona 500 winner by 20 yrs 1 day was set by Trevor Bayne today at Daytona. The old record was held by Jeff Gordon at 25 years, 6 months and 12 days. Trevor started 31st in today’s race. Here is the top 10 in today’s Daytona 500 1st Trevor Bayne #21, 2nd Carl Edwards #99, 3rd David Gilliland #34, 4th Bobby Labonte #47, 5th Kurt Busch #22, 6th Juan Pablo Montoya #42, 7th Ragan Smith #78, 8th Kyle Busch #18, 9th Paul Menard #27, 10th Mark Martin #5. This week at Daytona we seen a lot of two car tangos, and seen speeds well over 200 mph for the NASCAR nationwide series, and in the NASCAR sprint cup series this weekend on the nice and smooth new surface. Most of the drivers explained that you could almost have a full cup of coffee in your hand and cant spill a drop going around the new smooth surface around Daytona Rusty Wallace said right before the NASCAR nationwide series race on Saturday afternoon.
