Jimmie Johnson won the sprint cup series championship for his 5th straight time yesterday at Homestead speedway over Denny Hamlin by 39 points. This season Jimmie Johnson had 6 wins, and 17 top 5's, and an average finish of 12.2 this year. Jimmie Johnson's last win came at Dover back in the fall race beating Jeff Burton by 2.637 seconds. This year's battle to the championship was between Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick. Denny Hamlin came close to winning the championship last year but Jimmie Johnson pulled away with the Championship points in 2009 and, wasn't a battle last year. This weekend at Homestead Denny Hamlin was involved in a early race wreck with very light damage to the splitter and, the fast work by Denny Hamlin's pit crew kept him on the lead lap all day long and Denny Hamlin came back to finish 14th. Kevin Harvick finished 3rd place, and 2010 nascar sprint cup series championship winner Jimmie Johnson finished 2nd at Homestead. Carl Edwards went on the win the nascar sprint cup race sunday afternoon at Homrstead.
